Meg and Charles Wallace lose their father because he tessers, or moves forward in time and space, to the planet Camazotz.
Within the atmosphere of Camazotz, Camozotz contains IT, which is a giant brain and somehow has the power to control
anything that is on the planet which IT lives. IT is also creating The Black Thing, a black, smoke like substance that is pure evil. So Meg, Charles Wallace, and a friend named Calvin, have to rescue their father. In the end they succeed.
When I read this I thought that the end was much better than the beginning.
